Praire Bison

Yesterday we all woke to a motorcyclist along a rest stop on i90, right next to the van, revving its engine for take off. It wouldn't have been so bad if the guy didn't park right next to our camper! But we woke eventually to the smell of coffee and decided we were going to save breakfast for when we got to the town of Wall. We stopped 30 miles down the highway and ate breakfast at a little place called Train Diner in 1880 Town! The food was in our budget and thanks to Jake Bauder who sent us a donation of $25.00, specifically for breakfast, we did just that at this little diner! Once we ate, we set forth for the Badlands, full of food and a plan for adventure! We arrived at the park and it was awesome! it looked like a miniature grand canyon! We were crawling all through the mounds in this park, trying to discover rattle snakes and fossils and whatever else we could really! Adam did the photographing for the most part while Andrew and I did little explorations of the areas we hit driving through the park! We spotted some mountain goats and a few deer,  and tons of praire dogs!

Once we finally hit the areas that we could camp at we headed into town to see the famous Wall Drug! The store had many little shops and things inside it, but the store that caught our attention the most was the camping store where they had everything outdoors and more! We will be making another stop at the store for tent waterproofer today!

We arrived at our campsite early afternoon, or what seemed early because of how light it was out. On our way to the camper we were driving down the road and just along the side of the road was a big-ol-bison hanging out! We exchanged looks and carried on our way to the place we would be sleeping for the night. Adam and I went for a bike ride while Andrew hiked into the plains, we all eventually met back up at camp after a few hours of riding and hiking where we relaxed while a loud and crashing thunderstorm approached! The thunderstorm shook the van fiercely and the cracking thunder was rolling over us all night. The van canvas held up well with the driving rain, but when I sprayed the waterproofer all over the canvas I didn't get the windows very well so they leaked. We got lots of thunder on film!

So this morning we are headed to the Blackhills where we will maybe visit one of two places, Mount Rushmore and or the windcaves. We will figure out which one to do sometime along our way back to wall drug! Thats our tentative plan for today!

  2. Love the pictures Adam. The one of you driving by the bison is so cool. You are going to be changed men after this trip. Jake, is that the soldier you ended up in class with at KVCC Jonathan? It's super cool that people are coming through with donations. I would donate but...oh that's right, already did :) Be careful looking for those rattle snakes please...although, better to find one while looking than happen upon one and surprise it.
    Love, Lauren
